The island is surrounded by some of the best diving spots in the state. A famous one is Molokini, a small volcanic island 3 miles off Maui's coast. The coastal area of Kalaeloa (Turtle Town) is known for its fascinating lava formations and green sea turtles. The water at both of these locations is so clear that you can see many feet down, sometimes even to the ground. Besides turtles, you may see dolphins, whales, monk seals, manta rays, eels, octopi and many other colorful fish. You can find pristine diving and snorkeling spots also on the island of Lanai, just a short and fun boat ride away from Lahaina.
